The Attractions of the Great Outdoors

When most people from the United Kingdom consider taking a holiday, they instantly think about a holiday abroad. This is a shame really, as the UK has some terrific places to visit. Sure, the weather might be slightly unpredictable at times, but that isn't everything!

The United Kingdom has some wonderfully beautiful and historic areas and none more so than the Lake District. The largest of the National Parks in England and Wales, the Lake District has the tallest mountains and deepest lakes south of the Scottish border.

With over 12 million visitors a year travelling to the area, it is well set up with a tourist infrastructure which compliments rather than destroys the ambience of the countryside and environs. Lake District Hotels are more likely to come in the form of bed and breakfast establishments than the eyesores of the Costa Brava!

As well as the obvious attractions of the great outdoors, the area draws in people interested in the arts and literature. Many tourists, particularly from Japan, visit in order to see the home of Beatrix Potter, whilst others like to tread in William Wordsworth's shoes.

The Lake District has a lot to offer the tourist, and so, rather than travel overseas for your next vacation, why not experience a side to the United Kingdom that you might not otherwise have done.
